On August 19, 2016 I made the announcement that JP Barnaby would be retiring from writing.
There were several reasons for me to put my career to bed:
1. I met a wonderful man who I wanted to spend more time with. -- This strategy worked, because that man is now my husband.
2. Writing a book is only the beginning. Editing, promoting, and building a platform takes a lot of time and I had other things I wanted to do. -- This strategy worked because I've been on a couple of cruises, watched movies, read books just to read and went back to school.
3. My doctor found the perfect combination of medications to help control my depression. The damaged characters I wrote
were me channeling my depression, my own form of therapy. When the medication kicked in, I didn't want to delve into those damaged characters anymore. For the first time in my life, I was consistently happy. -- This strategy did not work because while I decided to be done with characters who needed love, it seemed they weren't done with me.
What's the same and what's different?
As you can see - the website is new. The new branding better represents the books that I write - recovery romance. The logo includes a heart that's been patched back together - making people happy, one book at a time.
I've transferred the blog posts from the old website that represent me as an author. You won't see the parties or craziness that JP was known for. That persona has been packed away with her corsets and her porn gift cards. What you will see, is me. The website consists of good friends, good food, and great books.
Where's the new book???
My new novel, Saving Hannah, is through editing, it's through the art department, and will be released in December. You'll notice that while there's conflict, it also has the same lighter , funnier elements that you saw in Anthony and Sophie.
Thomas Aberthol’s luck has run out. His daughter, Hannah, needs a miracle he can’t deliver. A hacker with a felony record, Thomas has little chance of finding work that will provide the care she needs. Out of money, out of options, and out of hope, he throws himself on the mercy of someone he never thought to see again.
Even after ten years, Aleksander Sanna still dreams of that drunken kiss. A perfect moment in time when Thomas wanted him. In his world of elegant code and high finance, the picture he holds of Thomas torments him in the dark of night.
Their worlds collide as Thomas interviews for the job he so desperately needs with the company Aleks inherited from his father. Thomas doesn’t get the position, but Aleks offers him a completely different kind of proposal, one suited to Thomas’s unique talents… one that will change the course of both their lives.
So, welcome to the new JP - the real JP. The housewife/author/programmer who likes to cook, has a crazy dog and a wonderful husband. The JP who likes to tell the stories of guys who need your love.
